Coming out May 11 is "Girl In Progress", a coming of age film starring Eva Mendes and new rising star, Cierra Ramirez. The movie tells the story of a young girl wanting to rush into adulthood by acting out in rebellion as a desperate cry out for attention. Here we check in with the lovely Cierra about her role as Ansiedad, a teenager who is willing to try anything to gain attention from her mother. You hardly ever get that in a role, the transition from good girl to bad girl & everything in between. But most of all, the fact that everything Ansiedad did, was for her mom. I really enjoyed her yearning for a mother-daughter bond. Q: I think that, in life, it's so easy always want to look forward to the next step, but this movie shows how important it is to live in the present. How hard is that to do in your profession? Cierra: It's true, you could be forced to grow up a lot with certain situations in this industry, but I like to stay true to myself. My parents actually had me take a break from acting, so I could get the whole teenage experience. I think it's important to enjoy growing up. Q: Our readers are ages 14-27 and will be able to relate in so many ways to your character. Is there anything you would like to share about your experience working on the movie and playing a girl on a powerful self-discovery journey? Cierra: During the filming process, I loved her journey of wanting to create a bond with her mother. I loved the edginess of the character, but the fact that all she wanted out of it was love. There's something really special about that, the situation she's in is very common in society today, which is why I think anyone can relate to her, Latina or not. |
